It was the last years of the last century when the Catania shopkeepers of the small and dusty perpendicular of Via Etnea decided to finance and propose to the municipal administration the creation of a pedestrian area in Via Spedalieri. The project involved the creation of street furniture with flowerbeds full of trees and flowers. A revolutionary initiative for the time which came to fruition, not without difficulties and controversies, thanks to the stubbornness of the entrepreneurs.
Since 1998, via Spedalieri has represented a virtuous model of partnership between companies. An enhancement of the territory for the enjoyment of the urban space thanks, also, to the sharing of "codes of conduct" between the historic shops and those that have come and gone over the years.
As veterans of that primordial kernel of "well(being) thinking", we are proud to once again participate in an important anniversary, a symbol of rare longevity, the fruit of passion and... madness.
The new floral representation on a bed of white cobblestone is inserted into the Sicilian terracotta structures on the backs of which are finely decorated majolica with elements and colors typical of our land, the sun and citrus fruits.
From the first cry to today, it must be admitted, Via Spedalieri has always been experienced as a complicated relationship. It has never been easy, it will probably continue to not be, but with good will and self-sacrifice, we will continue to write about those ideals of beauty, quality of life and work that the "willing" have in common.
